About Time: Cuomo To Get Impeached?

It’s actually going to happen. Articles of impeachment have been filed against disgraced Governor Andrew Cuomo by New York lawmakers.

Assembly Republicans have introduced an impeachment motion against Governor Cuomo, according to Spectrum News reporter Nick Reisman.

Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay says, “It’s been one bombshell after another.”

The news comes after Democratic state legislators in New York demanded that disgraced Governor Cuomo resign.

On Sunday, Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins (D) and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie (D) released statements urging the governor of New York to resign.

“Every day, another account diverts attention away from government business. We have sexual assault claims, a hostile work climate, concerns about the construction of a major infrastructure project, and the lack of reputation surrounding the Covid-19 nursing home data,” Senate Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins said. “This pandemic is now wreaking havoc on New York, with cultural, health, and economic consequences. We need to be able to rule without being distracted on a regular basis. Cuomo must resign for the sake of the state.”

Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie said, “The Governor should seriously consider whether he can adequately address the needs of the people of New York.”

Mike Gianaris, a Democrat from New York, joined them in “calling on Governor Cuomo to resign so that we can step our state forward.”

Governor Cuomo held a press conference on Wednesday, declaring that he “did not resign.” Cuomo had directed aides to scrub data that would expose the scope of his deadly March nursing home order, according to a study released one day later on Thursday.

Two more aides accused Cuomo of sexual harassment on Saturday, taking the total number of recent accusers to five.

Karen Hinton, a former press aide, says Cuomo asked her to return to his “dimly lit” hotel room and tried to drag her back to him when she declined. Cuomo was a member of Clinton’s cabinet at the time of the alleged incident in 2000.

Ana Liss, a former aide, claims Cuomo kissed her hand and cheeks, called her “sweetheart,” and even brushed her lower back on several occasions. Cuomo allegedly developed a “hostile, toxic” workplace culture for decades, according to the two latest accusers. Lindsey Boylan and Charlotte Bennett, two other former Cuomo aides, add to Cuomo’s suspected pattern of conduct.

Another accuser, Anna Ruch, was pictured with the governor caressing her face and making advances towards her in a public setting.

Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York is under increasing pressure. It will be fascinating to see if the same Democrats who recently demanded Cuomo’s resignation will still support his impeachment.
