Trump On The Possibility Of 2024 Presidential Bid…

Newsmax TV’s Greg Kelly tried to pin former President Donald Trump down on Wednesday over whether he is planning to run for a second term in 2024, but it didn’t work out for the host.

Trump, who made an appearance on Kelly’s program to discuss the passing of conservative talk radio icon Rush Limbaugh, said it is “too early to say” whether or not he’ll throw his hat back into the GOP ring, but he did indicate that he continues to garner waves of support.

“It’s too early to say, but I see a lot of great polls out there,” Trump said as Kelly attempted to elicit a definitive answer on three separate attempts.

“We have tremendous support,” the former president added. “I won’t say yet [if I’m running again], but I have tremendous support, and I’m looking at poll numbers that are through the roof. … I’m the only guy who gets impeached and my numbers go up.”

In fact, Trump is right.

A Politico/Morning Consult survey released earlier this week that was conducted in the days after his unprecedented second impeachment acquittal found that nearly six-in-10 Republicans want Trump to remain active in GOP circles.

“Republican voters got over any misgivings they had about Trump’s role on Jan. 6 very quickly,” Politico Playbook reported Tuesday.

“Fifty-nine percent of Republican voters said they want Trump to play a major role in their party going forward. That’s up 18 percentage points from a Morning Consult poll conducted on Jan. 7, and an increase of 9 points from a follow-up poll on Jan. 25, before the impeachment trial began,” the outlet noted further.

Interestingly, the same survey had Trump’s overall approval rating at “an abysmal 34 percent,” according to Politico, while President Joe Biden is supposedly enjoying 62 percent approval — not bad for a guy who barely campaigned, often can’t communicate intelligibly, lost Florida and Ohio, and 18 of 19 bellwether counties this election.

But at least Trump is polling better than one of the guys he campaigned for — Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who was underwater against Democratic challenger Amy McGrath before he enlisted the ex-president’s help.

Among Republicans, Trump would garner 53 percent of the vote if the election were held today, Politico noted. As for McConnell, his support in his home state of Kentucky has tanked, according to Newsweek, which cited a separate Morning Consult poll:

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, a Kentucky Republican, has seen his approval rating drop 29 points among constituents since the November election and his subsequent fallout with former President Donald Trump, according to a new poll.

Only 41 percent of GOP voters in McConnell’s home state now approve of his performance—down from 70 percent before the November election, according to a Morning Consult survey published Tuesday.

During his interview with Kelly, Trump lambasted McConnell after the minority leader turned on him following his impeachment acquittal by blaming the Capitol riot on the former president.

“The Republicans are soft. They only hit their own — like Mitch. … If he spent the same time hitting [Senate Majority Leader Charles] Schumer [D-N.Y.] and [President] Biden, the Republicans would be much better off,” Trump said, continuing his criticism of the Kentucky Republican after blasting him in a statement released following acquittal.

“Mitch is a dour, sullen, and unsmiling political hack, and if Republican Senators are going to stay with him, they will not win again. He will never do what needs to be done, or what is right for our Country,” the former president said through his Saving America PAC.
